"I am not designed to come second or third, I am designed to win."― Ayrton Senna

30 years have passed since Ayrton Senna tragically lost his life at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, but his legacy, his legend and his memory are never forgotten. Senna's influence is still seen across the motorsport community today, and for good reason. Highly considered one of the greatest drivers of all time, the Brazilian's raw talent was undeniably awe-inspiring.

Undisputedly Brilliant

Senna's F1 journey began in 1984 and even as a young driver in the sport, it was evident that he was something special. Having his debut at his home race in Brazil, he went on to finish ninth for Toleman in his first season in the sport.

Moving to Lotus in 1985 where he would spend three seasons, Senna finished fourth, fourth and third in the standings through the years. But it wasn't until 1988, and a move to the iconic McLaren team that Senna would become legendary.

In a tight inter-team battle between himself and Alain Prost - his teammate and fiercest on-track rival - Senna claimed his first World Championship, three points ahead of his French counterpart. Senna went on to claim two more Championship Titles with the team - in 1990 and 1990 - earning his status as one of F1's best drivers in history.

Moving to Williams in 1994, his ambitions for his career with the British team were tragically cut short as Senna would lose his life on 1st May in Imola. The Grand Prix goes down in history as one of the most tragic weekends in sport, with Senna and Ratzenberger both losing their lives at the track over the two days.

30 years on from that fateful weekend and Ayrton Senna remains as legendary as when he was racing. Many young drivers and World Champions have attributed their inspiration and passion to the late Brazilian, with many paying tributes to him through helmet designs over the years.
