The Alpine name may be relatively new to Formula 1®, but its roots in motorsport stretch back much further.
Founded by Jean Rédélé in 1955, Alpine established its name through lightweight performance cars and competition. The A110 became central to that story, helping Alpine secure the inaugural World Rally Championship manufacturers’ title in 1973 before the marque later achieved outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1978.
Decades later, the Alpine name took on a new challenge: Formula 1®.
For the 2021 season, Renault rebranded its Enstone-based works team as Alpine, bringing the marque onto the F1® grid for the first time. While Alpine represented a new identity for the team, the operation behind it brought decades of F1® history, with roots stretching back to Toleman, where Ayrton Senna made his debut, and Benetton, where Michael Schumacher won his first two World Drivers’ Championships.
Its first season quickly produced a defining result. Esteban Ocon claimed victory at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, delivering Alpine its maiden F1® win. Fernando Alonso added another milestone later that year with a podium finish at the Qatar Grand Prix.
Further memorable results followed as the Alpine era developed. In 2024, Ocon and Pierre Gasly delivered a remarkable double podium at the rain-affected São Paulo Grand Prix, finishing second and third respectively.
Today, Gasly is joined by Franco Colapinto as Alpine continues to shape the next phase of its F1® story. From a French marque established in the 1950s to a modern team competing on the Formula 1® grid, Alpine continues to add new chapters to a racing identity built across generations.
