Bring the dramatic appearance of the Elf Team Tyrrell 006 to your collection, with this 1:8 scale model idyllically recreating the full scale competitor. The 006 competed during the 1973 F1 Championship – it became one of Tyrrell Racing’s most successful race cars throughout the team’s 30-year history.
Raced in by two-time World Champion Jackie Stewart and François Cevert, the 006 epitomised the extremes of F1 during the 1970s.
The 006 was the first Tyrrell-built design to be perfectly replicated, with the ‘006’ becoming a model number rather than simply a chassis specification. Three versions of the chassis were then produced and were driven by Stewart and Cevert.
The Highs & Lows of Tyrrell’s Golden Era
The car was made up of an aluminium monocoque which was lower and wider that previous cars, described as being a slab-sided and flat-topped ‘bathtub’ monocoque which was inspired by the Lotus 72 that took the title in 1972.
The car’s radiator remained in the nose, with the side-mounted oil radiators covered in the back of the monocoque. Outboard coil/spring units were used front and rear, and the in-board front brakes were also inspired by the Lotus.
The drivers started the 1973 season in the same 006 cars, with Cevert securing a 2nd place in Argentina and Stewart placing third and claiming a further podium in Brazil. Following this success, the Scotsman was given the newest chassis – the 006/2 - with which is won the South African Grand Prix in its first outing after starting 16th on the grid. The 006/2 proceeded to power Stewart to further victories in Belgium, Monte Carlo, the Netherlands, and Germany before claiming his third World Drivers’ Championship in Italy with three races left.
Cevert’s F1 journey came to a tragic end in 1973, however. During the Canadian Grand Prix he crashed, causing the team to build a spare car for the next race – the United States Grand Prix. It was at this race that Cevert lost his life. During Qualifying, he crashed violently in the uphill Esses, fatally injuring him.
The 1:8 Scale Model
This model, expertly crafted by the team at Amalgam Collection, is an authentic reproduction of the cars driven by Stewart and Cevert. Paying tribute to both drivers, this model showcases the engineering excellence of the 1973 competitor. Produced at 1:8 scale, it is poised as the perfect show piece for F1 collectors with an eye for brilliance.
