This skateboard has been innovatively crafted from genuine skid block, taken from 2017 Mercedes-AMG F1 W08 EQ Power+ race cars, which clinched both Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships that year. 

These unique skateboards have been crafted using pieces of skid block which were once fitted to the bottom of the 2017 Mercedes F1 cars. Creatively reusing the race used skid block to present a brilliant piece of sporting equipment, you can now cruise on the history of Mercedes’ 2017 Championship-winning cars! 

The 2017 season was a phenomenal one, with then three-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes battling it out with four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel of Scuderia Ferrari. The season came with many challenges, but with nine race victories under his belt, Lewis came out on top, scoring 363 points compared to Vettel’s 317, and claiming his fourth Title. The competition drew to a close at the Mexican Grand Prix, where Lewis finished ninth – it was enough however for him to secure the Title crown. 

An excellent year for Mercedes, the Silver Arrows claimed their fourth consecutive Constructors’ World Championship Title, with Valtteri Bottas finishing third in the standings, with three race victories to his name.  

What is Skid Block? 

Skid block is a mandatory piece of bodywork that gets fitted to the underneath the F1 car. It was first introduced in 1994 following the tragic death of three-time World Champion, Ayrton Senna. The skid block or ‘legality plank’ was brought in to increase the safety of the car and exists as a main feature on the race cars of today. 

The plank is fitted beneath the central plane of the car. It is designed to restrict the minimum height to make sure all drivers are following the ride height regulations, as well as to prevent drivers taking corners at dangerously high speeds. If the skid block has been worn down by more than a millimetre at the end of an F1 Race, that car will be then disqualified.
