Alonso joined McLaren in 2015, following a year long stint with them in 2007, and continued with them until end of 2018. Despite 2016 being a challenging season for the team, Alonso finished 10th in the Drivers’ World Championship, claiming points at nine Grands Prix. The race at Circuit of the Americas saw the driver claim fifth place, securing 10 points for the team - a strong and valuable finish.
