How is race-used F1® memorabilia authenticated?

Discover how our relationships with Formula 1® teams, the history of each piece and supporting documentation help establish the authenticity of race-used memorabilia.

A race-used car part or driver-worn piece of racewear has a direct connection to Formula 1®. Establishing its authenticity starts with its source, the information about its use and the documentation that accompanies it.

At F1® Authentics, our relationships with the sport and its teams give us direct access to memorabilia from the track. These relationships support the authenticity of the collection and the information we provide to collectors.

Connected to the teams and drivers

F1® Authentics is an Official F1® Licensed Partner, operated by Memento Exclusives. Our partnership with Formula 1® began in 2019 and runs through 2030. We also have partnerships with 10 of the 11 teams across the grid.

Through our relationships with teams and drivers, we source race-used car components and driver-worn memorabilia. Obtaining pieces directly from those connected to their use gives us an authoritative source for information about their origin.

Our official partnerships establish our relationship with the sport. The information supporting each individual piece establishes its identity and stated use.

Understanding race-used memorabilia

Race-used memorabilia can come from track activity across a Formula 1® weekend, rather than exclusively from the Grand Prix race itself. Depending on the piece, this can include:

  • Free Practice sessions
  • Qualifying
  • Sprint Qualifying
  • The F1® Sprint
  • The Grand Prix race

The term alone does not identify a specific session. Check the individual product description for the confirmed details of when and how the piece was used.

Identifying the piece and its history

For a car component, the available information can identify the team, car and season. For racewear, it can identify the driver who wore it and the season or event associated with its use.

Our Red Bull Racing RB6 wheel nut, for example, is described as Grand Prix-used during the team’s 2010 championship-winning season. Our Lance Stroll 2022 balaclava is identified as worn by Stroll during that season.

These details explain the connection each piece has to the sport. Where use at a specific Grand Prix is confirmed, that adds a further chapter to its history. The individual product description records the information available.

Authentication supplied with your piece

Supporting authentication can include a Certificate of Authenticity, an official hologram or other product-specific identification and documentation.

The format varies by product, so check the details for your chosen piece and follow the instructions supplied with it. Keep any certificates and accompanying paperwork with your memorabilia as part of its record.
