Niki Lauda lined up for the 1976 Formula One season alongside his teammate Clay Regazzoni for Ferrari. The season went down as one of the most famous in the sports history, especially since the release of the ‘Rush’ movie in 2013. The season began in dominant fashion for Lauda took the win in four of the first six races of the season.
However, the season took a sinister turn at the German Grand Prix, held at the Nürburgring, where Lauda crashed and was hospitalised with severe burns. This crash forced Lauda to miss the next two races, due to his injuries. Niki returned for the Italian Grand Prix, but his form hit a lapse due to the injuries and James Hunt took control of the championship. Lauda missed out on the championship by one point in one of the most closely contested races in Formula One history.
