The DRS flap plays a crucial role during a race; the drag reduction system (DRS) is a movable part of the rear wing which can open and close. By opening the flap, the aerodynamic drag is reduced, which allows the car to accelerate more easily, to increase its top speed. It’s mostly used on straight parts of circuits and is key for overtaking.
