Story
The FW46 race car was designed by Williams Racing and was first revealed on 5th February 2024. Its livery boasted similar detailing to its predecessors, the FW44 and FW45. It was the first Williams F1® car to use an on-wheel multi-function display, with the previous versions having this display set on the chassis. The manufacturing process was significant in 2024, with Williams opting to produce metal car parts rather than carbon fibre. However, this development meant the cars initially exceeded the weight limit.
The FW46 was driven by three different drivers in 2024. Alex Albon, who remained a constant throughout the season, Logan Sargeant who fulfilled half the season, and then Franco Colapinto who stepped into Sargeant’s vacant seat from the Italian Grand Prix onwards.
Fact File
The cars come fitted with electronic features, including a 3D printed steering wheel with a working screen and working roll hoop and brake lights. The steering wheel is fully connected to the front wheels via the steering rack enabling the wheels to move.
The car can be lifted by the front and rear and the nose and front wing assembly can be removed for transport purposes, as can the wheels for pit stop practice.
