Story

This is an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a genuine Formula 1® race car – the Scuderia Toro Rosso STR14-04, raced during the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship season. Driven by Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly, this chassis represents one of the rarest categories of F1® collectibles: a podium-finishing, race-used car from the hybrid era.

A Rare Podium and a Historic Season

The STR14 secured Toro Rosso’s finest result of the decade, with Pierre Gasly achieving a sensational P2 finish at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix – his first career podium. In doing so, this car cemented its place in modern F1® history, delivering a result that remains one of the defining moments of the team’s legacy before its transformation into AlphaTauri and later Racing Bulls (VCARB).

Gasly drove the car for 8 other races, four of which also saw him finish in the points. Prior to this, the car was first driven by Alex Albon for 12 races, who finished in the points five times himself and reached P6 in Germany. It was the sister car to the one driven by Daniil Kvyat throughout the 2019 season, who managed to achieve a podium finish in his vehicle at the German Grand Prix, finishing P3.

Race-used F1® rolling chassis from the turbo-hybrid era (post-2014) are rarely released to private ownership. To find one that not only competed, but also scored a podium, makes this STR14-04 a rare treasure.

Italian Heritage, Future Legends

Scuderia Toro Rosso carried forward the proud Italian lineage of Minardi, long regarded as the proving ground for future stars. Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo all began their journeys here – and in 2019, Gasly and Albon wrote their own chapters.

This STR14 represents the final Toro Rosso before the team rebranded, making it the last car to carry the name, crest, and iconic livery. Its striking blue, silver and red scheme – often ranked among the most beautiful of the decade – remains instantly recognisable. Sponsors and brand logos such as Red Bull, Honda, Pirelli remain clearly visible, as do uniquely memorable examples such as Moose Craft Hotdogs, all providing a vivid snapshot of the era and F1®’s global culture.

The car was officially launched in February 2019 and was the last produced by James Key before he joined McLaren alongside Jody Egginton who now leads the engineering team at Red Bull Advanced Technologies. It featured several shared components and influences from the senior team’s RB14 and, in a departure from previous models, made significant changes to the sidepods, which now featured a new high-top design. The monocoque was the most complex the team had ever created and focused on developing the tightest and most efficient package, aiming to give the aerodynamic team more freedom and contributing to the car’s future success.

Technical Brilliance and Visual Beauty

Offered exactly as raced, complete with full livery, this chassis offers a glimpse into the pinnacle of F1® engineering of the late 2010s. Built with extensive Red Bull Racing DNA, the STR14 featured advanced aerodynamics, a sophisticated front suspension system and Honda power unit partnership – technical achievements that take pride of place amongst collectors of Red Bull and Honda heritage pieces. While the original Honda engine has been returned to Japan, as is standard, the car retains its historic authenticity.

The car is presented in exceptional condition and was prepared for sale by the Toro Rosso team. A fabricated steel frame attaches to the central carbon tub and the rear gearbox casing using billet machined components. The pedal box and associated hydraulic components including the brake master cylinders, hydraulic reservoirs and steering rack are all included, and the composite steering column remains in place. The composite rear gearbox casing and gearbox casing also retain the components within.

Front suspension is presented in complete condition, and the car side of the cooling system (opposite powertrain side) is retained with a complete set of Power Unit radiators, coolers and ancillary coolers. Both cooling packs in left and right sidepod remain along with the central intake duct cooling assembly. All coolers have been protected from damage by the Toro Rosso team, who have installed plastic sheets over the fragile radiator cores.

Inspection of the side hatch plate indicates the fuel tanks have been maintained along with all dry break fittings used by the team to fill the car with fuel, as well as those used for obtaining the fuel samples required for FIA regulations.

Stewardship of a Modern Classic

For discerning collectors, the STR14-04 represents more than a car – it is a cultural artefact of modern F1®. It stands as the last of its lineage as well as the car that delivered the team's most successful season, and first podium for Pierre Gasly.

This one of the only genuine race-used hybrid-era F1® machines ever made available publicly. Exclusively obtainable during the F1® Authentics Austin GP Auction, this is one of the rarest opportunities seen in motorsport collecting today.

Collectors will appreciate that this example includes two steering wheels (race-spec and transport), a Toro Rosso protective cover, a spare front wing, two additional sets of rims and tyres, plus sockets – a remarkable completeness to rival any other.

To own this rolling chassis is to own a piece of Toro Rosso’s legacy, an incredibly rare podium obtaining car and one of the only post-2014 examples to have ever been made available for purchase.

Auction Buyers Guide

Our team's primary aims are to source the most unique items for our auctions and to make participating in our online events enjoyable and easy for our buyers. We endeavour to do this whilst offering a personalised service to all.

Step 1: Register to Bid

To register as a bidder, create an account on our account. You'll be asked to provide your credit card details, and a temporary charge will be placed on the account for the duration of the auction to minimise fraudulent accounts from interfering with the bidding process.

Step 2: Place Your Bid

Items at auction may be sold with or without a reserve price, and will be clearly identified as such during the auction.

For a sale to be successful a bid must equal or exceed the reserve. In the event that you are the highest final bidder, but the total bid remains under the reserve price the item will not sell.

Items that are sold without a reserve will be clearly identified as such during the auctions. In their case the highest final bid will always win the item.

Items that do not meet reserve or do not receive any bids will not sell. Upon the closure of the auction these will be removed and managed independently by our specialists. Interested parties are invited to engage with our private sales team to make an offer.

Step 3: Make Payment

We pride ourselves in offering our customers a variety of payment options to satisfy their preferences. Upon conclusion of the auction the F1® Authentics sales platform will automatically issue a payment link to the winning bidder.

Payment is due in full by the end of the first business day following a sale. Proof of payment will be required and requested by our specialists.

Auction hammer price is exclusive of buyer's premium and sales tax, and exclusive of import duties and VAT.

All invoices and payments will be in Great British Pounds (GBP).

Memento Exclusives operates with several reputable logistics experts. Our partners have experience coordinating the worldwide shipment of valuable and delicate vehicles and collectibles and will ensure products are treated with the utmost care.
